# SDL\_HINT\_X11\_WINDOW\_TYPE(3)

A variable specifying the type of an X11 window.

## NAME

SDL\_HINT\_X11\_WINDOW\_TYPE - A variable specifying the type of an X11 window.

## HEADER FILE

Defined in SDL3/SDL\_hints.h

## SYNOPSIS

```
#include "SDL3/SDL.h"
```

**#define SDL\_HINT\_X11\_WINDOW\_TYPE** *SDL\_X11\_WINDOW\_TYPE"*

## DESCRIPTION

During **SDL\_CreateWindow** , SDL uses the \_NET\_WM\_WINDOW\_TYPE X11 property to report to the window manager the type of window it wants to create. This might be set to various things if

**SDL\_WINDOW\_TOOLTIP**\
  or

**SDL\_WINDOW\_POPUP\_MENU** , etc, were specified. For "normal" windows that haven't set a specific type, this hint can be used to specify a custom type. For example, a dock window might set this to "\_NET\_WM\_WINDOW\_TYPE\_DOCK".

This hint should be set before creating a window.

## AVAILABILITY

This hint is available since SDL 3.2.0.
