Login.app(1x)

a login application with the NeXTStep look

NAME

Login.app - a login application with the NeXTStep look

SYNOPSIS

Login.app

DESCRIPTION

Login.app fires up the X server, changes the background color, and puts a login box centered on the screen. It's invoked via init(8).

It accepts several commands entered on the username box.

*

username reboot with the root password, excecutes /usr/share/Login.app/Login.app.reboot

*

username halt with the root password, excecutes /usr/share/Login.app/Login.app.halt

*

username exit without password exits (and restarts, if installed on inittab) Login.app

*

username console without password opens a kind of console where you can login. Please note root can't login here UNLESS you edit /etc/securetty(5) to include ttyp0. Read that man page to find out why.

OPTIONS

-noanimations

disables animations (shake on wrong password, fade on login)

-xserver

Xserver Uses Xserver as the X server instead of the default (/usr/X11R6/bin/X)

FILES

/etc/inittab

file used by init(8) to initialize the computer

/usr/share/Login.app/Panel.xpm

the file to use for the graphic panel. Please note the dimensions and the coordinates of the username and password prompts.

/etc/X11/Login.app/Login.app.reboot

the file executed when a reboot command is requested

/etc/X11/Login.app/Login.app.halt

the file executed when a halt command is requested

/etc/X11/Login.app/Login.app.initcmd

the file executed while initializing the screen for the login panel. Using this file you should be able to customize the background of the screen, keyboard map, resources, and things like that.

/etc/X11/Login.app/Login.app.console

the command used to setup the console. It takes two arguments, the geometry and the font.

Note that the Panel file is handled using alternatives. You don't have to edit the actual file, but change the place where the symlink in /etc/alternatives points to.

BUGS

On the "console" I can't get it to recognize the root password without changing securettys.
