# FvwmPipe(1)

Pipe commands into FVWM

## NAME

FvwmPipe - Pipe commands into FVWM

## SYNOPSIS

FvwmPipe is spawned by fvwm, so no command line invocation will work.

## DESCRIPTION

FvwmPipe allows the user the ability to control fvwm from without itself. On startup, it created the named pipe $HOME/.fvwmpipe.in. Whatever is written to this pipe is passed on to fvwm.

## INVOCATION

FvwmPipe can be invoked by inserting the line 'Module FvwmPipe' in the .fvwm2rc file. This can be placed on a line by itself, if FvwmPipe is to be spawned during fvwm's initialization, or can be bound to a menu or mouse button or keystroke to invoke it later. Fvwm will search directory specified in the ModulePath configuration option to attempt to locate FvwmPipe.

## EXAMPLES

To restart fvwm, one could do the following:

```
  echo "restart" > $HOME/.fvwmpipe.in
```

To add emacs to the StartMenu, the following could be used:

```
  echo "AddtoMenu \"StartMenu\" \"Emacs\" Exec emacs " > $HOME/.fvwmpipe.in
```

## CONFIGURATION OPTIONS

There are no configuration options.

## AUTHOR

FvwmPipe was written by Matthias Ettrich, 1996. This manual page was written by Julian Gilbey \<jdg@debian.org\> for Debian GNU/Linux, based on the source code, and may be freely redistributed.
